FHA’s Legislative Preview Tour began Monday, January 9 in Rapid City where 135 patriots came out to enjoy a Pizza Ranch Buffet and listen to an overview of the issues facing South Dakota’s 92nd Legislative Session. It was encouraging to hear from representatives of Senator Thune, Senator Rounds and Congresswoman Noem. We were honored to have not one but TWO West River Mayors in attendance. Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender bounded onto the stage and presented an encouraging “State of the City” address. Then it was time for the FHA to say “Thank You” to Box Elder Mayor Larry Larson who personally supported the passage of the ‘In God We Trust Resolution’ passed on a vote of 6-0 by Box Elder’s Council this past December. Currently TWO South Dakota cities have passed this Resolution as Mitchell did so a year ago. We are now looking for City #3.
Our hearty travelers moved on to Sioux Falls for a luncheon there the next day on Tuesday, January 10. Here the team found 61 FHA friends in attendance. FHA Advisory Council Chair and Attorney Jim Power gave an informative update on the Initiated Measure 22’s Court Challenge. We were encourage by three representing our Congressional Delegation as they delivered greetings from our Washington Trio. As always, Dale and Norman (our lobbying “A” team) did a great job, enthusiastically lining out some of the many issues we face as the 2017 legislative session gets underway in Pierre.
We so appreciate our host churches: RC – Bible Fellowship Church; and SF – Memorial Lutheran Church. We highly value the partnerships we have with so many amazing congregations across the state. Also, thanks to our volunteers, our staff, and the FHA Hospitality Committee who always keep these events on track.
