ENDA (the Employment Non-Discrimination Act) about which we reported last week, was passed in the US Senate on Thursday, November 7. The 64-32 vote was helped handily along by the assistance of ten Republican Senators. South Dakota Senator John Thune stood for our family values and voted “NO” on this measure. This is the first major piece of legislation involving gay rights since Congress repealed “don’t ask – don’t tell” in December 2010. The passage of the measure in the Senate puts the issue in the hands of the House of Representatives, where Republican leaders have stated the bill is not going anywhere. The FHA will continue to monitor this.
