The Family Heritage Alliance was in good company on July 31, as we stood with Big Horn Canyon Community Church, Black Hills National Day of Prayer Task Force, and our friends at KLMP/KSLT radio, co-sponsoring an evening with Brigitte Gabriel. Brigitte is President and CEO of ACT! For America (the largest grassroots defense and security organization in the US), author of two books on the New York Times list of best sellers, and is one of the world’s foremost experts on Radical Islam. She regularly addresses distinguished groups and organizations around the world including the U.S. Congress and the FBI. Gabriel was born into a Christian home in Lebanon, which at the time had a large population of Christians. By the time Brigitte was seven years of age, her homeland had become “ground zero” in Islam’s war against democracy and Christian values. At age seven, her home was attacked by Islamic terrorists. The subsequent explosion destroyed her house and she and her family were buried in the rubble. After spending an extended time in the hospital, Brigitte and her family took up residence in a bomb shelter, venturing out only to get food and water, always under the constant threat of Muslim sniper fire. Her family lived under these extreme conditions until she was 17. At one point, Brigitte asked her dad: “why did they do this to us”. His response was: “they hate us because of who we are, because we are Christians”.
Brigitte’s family was rescued when Israel invaded Lebanon. She went on to become a journalist and eventually immigrate to the United States. On September 11, 2001, she, along with the rest of the world, watched as the World Trade Center fell, and the smoke billowed up from the Pentagon. In a powerful moment in her presentation, Gabriel described the moment that her young daughter found out about the 9/11 attacks and asked: “why did they do this to us”? Brigitte said that she never would have thought that in America, she would have to repeat the same lines her dad spoke to her in Lebanon. “They hate us because of who we are. They hate us because they consider us infidels”. The events on 9/11 propelled Brigitte Gabriel to become an activist on the issues surrounding Islamic Extremism.
Brigitte spent the evening on July 31 exposing radical Islam’s plan for world dominance, evaporating misconceptions, and exposing the West’s “lack of imagination”. At one point she stated that “it isn’t like we didn’t know” what they were planning. She went on to make a case for the fact that radical Islam has a huge head start because we have been “asleep at the switch”. A large portion of Brigitte’s presentation focused on the incursion of radical Islam into our college and even grade school educational systems.
The explosive energy that Brigitte brought to this event was a “force of nature”. She held a room of almost 600 hundred spellbound as she presented facts and figures to corroborate her case and detailed the steps needed to secure our country.
